| ABSTRACT One hundred commercial wheat grain samples were collected during the 2015 sea-son across 78 municipalities in the states of Paraná (PR), Rio Grande do Sul (RS), and São Paulo (SP), Brazil. Separate subsamples were analyzed for the concentration of deoxynivalenol (DON), zearalenona (ZEA) and ochratoxin A (OTA) mycotoxins using two methods: UHPLC-MS/MS (reference method) and a commercial enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) (AgraQuant®). The OTA mycotoxin was not found in the samples by both methods. DON and ZEA were detected in 55 % and 39 % of the samples by the reference method, with overall mean levels of 795.2 μg kg−1 and 79.78 μg kg−1, respectively. | Anaplasma marginale es una Rickettsia que parasita los eritrocitos maduros del ganado bovino, provocando grandes pérdidas económicas en las regiones tropicales y subtropicales. La enfermedad se caracteriza por marcada anemia hemolítica, disminución del peso, aborto y en ocasiones la muerte. | Parvovirus B19 has a marked tropism for erythroid progenitor cells. This may lead to chronic anemia in predisposed individuals. The purpose of the study was to investigate the frequency of parvovirus B19 infections in patients with diagnosis of haematological disorders. In order to determine the diagnostic use of different markers of parvovirus B19 infection, serum specimens obtained from 79 patients with haematological disorders were tested for specific antibodies and viral DNA through the use of ELISA and PCR techniques. | F1-antigen purified from Yersinia pestis was covalently linked to 5-mm diameter filter paper discs plasticized with polyvinyl alcohol-glutaraldehyde. These discs were used both for ELISA and dot-ELISA for the detection of anti-F1 IgG in rabbits. The best conditions were achieved using 1.25 µg of F1 antigen/disc, 3% w/v skim milk in PBS as blocking agent, anti-IgG peroxidase conjugate diluted 12,000 times, and serum from rabbits immunized or not against Y. pestis, diluted 6,400 times. | Hyaluronan (HA) shows promise for detecting cancerous change in pleural effusion and urine. However, there is uncertainty about the localization of HA in tumor tissue and its relationship with different histological types and other components of the extracellular matrix, such as angiogenesis. We evaluated the association between HA and degree of malignancy through expression in lung tumor tissue and sputum. Tumoral tissue had significantly increased HA compared to normal tissue. | Clinical samples from 71 bovine from different Brazilian states were processed for the analysis of anaerobe organisms with emphasis on the isolation and characterization of Clostridium spp. From these, eighty-nine Clostridium perfringens strains were recovered: 32 from liver, 19 from intestinal contents, 14 from kidney, 6 from rumen, 5 from nervous system, 4 from bone marrow, 2 from udder tract, blood, spleen and lung, and one from muscle. | Donkey’s milk represents a good alternative to human milk because of its chemical characteristics similar to those of human’s. In present study, the pro- and anti-inflammatory effects of donkey’s milk were evaluated on peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs). PBMCs were isolated from 12 young and 12 aged normal subjects. PBMCs were cultured with or without the optimal and non-cytotoxic dose of pasteurized donkey’s milk, and polymyxin B was used to inhibit the possible endotoxin contamination. | An ELISA system was applied to study the prevalence of EHV-1 in vaccinated and non-vaccinated Brazilian horses. Serum samples were taken from non-symptomatic pregnant mares, before and after the parturition, and from their neonatal foals. The antigen was prepared from a purified virus fraction (HVE-1 AB1 strain). The ELISA absorbance of 0.3516 was determined as the threshold of negative values. This cut-off level was defined from a selected interval, which determined a sensibility of 100% and a specificity of 94.7%, from a serum collection obtained from pregnant mares and fetuses. | Um teste de ELISA polivalente baseado em lipopolissacarídeos de cadeia longa (LPS - CL) de Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae (App) sorotipos 3, 5 e 7 foi avaliado testando-se amostras do soro de leitões e matrizes provenientes de 10 rebanhos positivos e de 10 rebanhos negativos. Foram classificados como positivos aqueles rebanhos com isolamento prévio do App sorotipos 3, 5 ou 7 e rebanhos negativos aqueles submetidos ao controle veterinário, sem notificação de sintomas clínicos, sem lesões de pleuropneumonia suína e sem isolamento do agente.
